Manager Symons is sacked by Fulham

Fulham have sacked manager Kit Symons.

Symons had been under-fire from fans following a series of poor performances this season.

The axe eventually fell in the wake of Saturday’s 5-2 defeat at home by Birmingham, which left Fulham 12th in the Championship table.

“It is now time to take Fulham to the higher level of success that we expect from our manager and our players,” said chairman Shahid Khan.

Symons, 44, made more than 100 appearances as a player for the club between 1998 and 2001.

He stepped up from Under-21s boss to take caretaker charge following the sacking of Felix Magath in September last year.

The former Wales defender was given the manager’s job at Craven Cottage a month later but won just 22 of his 61 matches at the helm.
