Manager Magath is sacked by Fulham

Fulham have sacked manager Felix Magath.

Kit Symons has been placed in caretaker charge after Magath was shown the door in the wake of the 5-3 defeat at Nottingham Forest which continued the Whites’ dismal start to life in the Championship.

The German took over in February but was unable to keep them in the top flight and they are bottom of the table having failed to win any of their seven league games this season.

“This is an unfortunate but necessary change,” said chairman Shahid Khan.

“I am doing what I feel is right and needed for Fulham Football Club, for today as well as tomorrow.

“I thank our supporters for standing by us during these most difficult of times on the pitch, and promise better days ahead.”

Former Wales defender Symons, 43, made more than 100 appearances for Fulham during a three-year spell as a player at the club.

He was twice caretaker manager of Crystal Palace before returning to Craven Cottage, where he has been in charge of the Under-21 side.
