Kacaniklic strike earns Fulham cup win at Wycombe

Wycombe 0 Fulham 1

Alex Kacaniklic’s second-half strike earned Fulham a gritty victory in the first round of the Capital One Cup.

Fulham, playing at this stage of the competition for the first time in 15 years, had to wait until the 69th minute to find the breakthrough, Kacaniklic crashing in the winner from a Ben Pringle pass.

Ross McCormack twice fired efforts off target while Kacaniklic also went close as the hosts had the better of the opening 25 minutes.

But League Two side Wycombe enjoyed as much possession and Joe Jacobsen, Daniel Rowe and Garry Thompson also wasted good chances in quick succession.

Thompson’s miss was the most glaring, shooting over from six yards.

However, Kacaniklic’s fine strike settled the nerves after the break and Wycombe struggled to threaten in the closing stages.

Fulham: Bettinelli; Grimmer (Richards 62), Hutchinson, Bodurov, Voser; Kacaniklic, Cairney, O’Hara (Mattila 83), Pringle; McCormack, Woodrow (Smith 68).
Subs not used: Lonergan, Burn, Hyndman, Dembele.
