Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic hailed his team’s “very important start” to the season after their 2-1 win at Preston.

Goals from Sone Aluko and Matt Smith proved decisive as Fulham made it two wins from two Championship games.

“It’s a very good start for us. Fulham haven’t won the two opening games since 2000,” said Jokanovic.

“It’s a very important start for us and I am happy with how we played. But it’s only the start. It’s a very long season in front of us.”

Smith’s goal was his second in as many matches – he scored Fulham’s winner in their 1-0 defeat of Newcastle.

But Jokanovic reiterated his desire to bring in at least one striker following the summer departures of Ross McCormack and Moussa Dembele.

“Matt Smith worked very hard and I am sure he will help us in the future, but I need more people in that position,” he said.
