Fulham on the brink after Hull fightback

Fulham 2 Hull City 2

Fulham’s Premier League status hangs by a thread after they lost a two-goal lead in their vital penultimate home match of the season.

Substitute Ashkan Dejagah and defender Fernando Amorebieta fired them into a two-goal lead before the hour.

But striker Nikica Jelavic headed into an empty net after David Stockdale’s save bounced back off the crossbar and Shane Long nodded in from close-range with four minutes left.

It was cruel and heartbreaking for Fulham and especially their manager, Felix Magath, who had acted decisively at half-time to inject life into his struggling side.

The Whites managed just two meagre efforts on goal in the first half and Hull could have had a penalty when Long was brought down by Amorebieta in the box just before the break.

Magath introduced Kieran Richardson and Dejagah for the second half and Iranian Dejagah, who smashed in a screamer to beat Newcastle last month, curled another superb effort in from distance to open the scoring on 55 minutes.

Three minutes later, Richardson delievered for Amorebieta to head in the second and put the Whites on course to move out of the drop zone for the first time since January.

But Hull twice hit the woodwork whilst orchestrating a brilliant late fightback and strikers Jelavic and Long deserved their goals, denying Fulham a third win in four matches.
