Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy believes Fulham will challenge for promotion again this season after seeing his side ‘murdered’ by them at Portman Road.

Goals from Neeskens Kebano and summer signing Rui Fonte gave Fulham their first Championship victory of the season while handing Ipswich their first loss this term, with McCarthy admitting that his team was outplayed across the field.

He said: “Call the police, because there’s been murder on the pitch.

“Sometimes you have to say hats off to the opposition, well done. They absolutely bashed us, with the ball and without.

Rui Fonte scored in Fulham’s 2-0 victory

“They’ve done both sides of the game today – nice football and the pressing, the tackling, the working. They did everything today. Both centre-backs were solid. They were excellent.”

And with the Whites narrowly missing out on the play-off final last season, McCarthy expects them to go far again in their search a Premier League return come May.

“Fulham are just very good,” he added. “They’re tops. I do think they will be promotion candidates again this season.”
