Fulham captain Tom Cairney believes his fitness is improving after he completed his fourth consecutive match since coming back from injury.

Cairney missed nine of Fulham’s first 16 league matches this season because of a knee problem.

He featured in the Whites’ 3-1 west London derby loss at Brentford, in which Fulham took the lead but had Denis Odoi sent off just after half-time.

Cairney said: “It was an okay first half. We’re a bit disappointed with their (first) goal and thought it was going to be a good game in the second half. But the red card changed the game.

“We could have taken a few more of our chances and killed off the game, but it was just one of those frustrating days.”

He added: “The knee’s getting stronger and feels a bit better, so I’m fairly happy with it. I just have to recover now and go again next week.”
