Vital Fulham win eases relegation fears

Huddersfield 0 Fulham 2

Seko Fofana’s injury-time goal sealed victory for Fulham as they eased their relegation fears by winning an incident-filled game.

Alex Kacaniklic scored direct from a corner after only two minutes and Huddesfield’s Nahki Wells missed two penalties before on-loan Manchester City midfielder Fofana netted in the final seconds – his first senior goal.

The home side were given a chance to equalise in bizarre circumstances on the hour mark.

Following a handball on the line, Whites forward Cauley Woodrow was initially red-carded by referee Richard Clark, who then changed his mind and instead dismissed Shaun Hutchinson.

The resulting penalty by Wells was brilliantly saved by Fulham keeper Marcus Bettinelli and Fulham then went close to scoring a second when Woodrow fired against the post after being found by Tim Hoogland.

Wells was again unable to score from the spot on 72 minutes, this time belting his penalty against the bar after Jazz Richards had brought down Sean Scannell.

With Huddersfield pushing forward in search of an equaliser, Fofana made sure of a win which takes Fulham eight points clear of the drop zone.

Fofana sprinted through on goal and was able to apply the finish after his first effort had come back off the post.

Fulham: Bettinelli, Grimmer, Hutchinson, Turner, Richards, Tunnicliffe, Hoogland, Kavanagh (Bodurov 61), Kacaniklic (Fofana 67), Smith, Woodrow (Rodallega 88).
