Fulham sign Blackburn midfielder Cairney

Fulham have signed Blackburn midfielder Tom Cairney for an undisclosed fee.

Cairney, 24, has signed a four-year deal with the Whites, with the option to extend until 2020.

The 24-year-old, a graduate of the Leeds United academy, made his breakthrough at Hull City, scoring on his debut in August 2009 and going on to make a number of appearances in the Premier League.

He joined Blackburn ahead of the 2013-14 season and went on to win the club’s player of the season award.

Although born in Nottingham, Cairney played for Scotland Under-21s having qualified through his father.

Cairney said: “For most of my life Fulham have been a Premier League club and have only been out of it for a year.

“They’ve had some great players over the years and it’s a very attractive club to come to.

“Every player wants to play in the Premier League and if I can do that with Fulham that would be fantastic.”

Cairney is the third signing of the summer by Whites boss Kit Symons, after the additions of goalkeeper Andy Lonergan and midfielder Ben Pringle.
