Fulham 2 Middlesbrough 1 (After extra time)

Lasse Vigen Christensen scored an extra-time winner to send Fulham into the EFL Cup third round.

The Dane turned home Scott Malone’s incisive cross to send the Whites fans into raptures and knock out their Premier League opponents.

Manager Slavisa Jokanovic, who made nine changes from Saturday’s draw against Cardiff, saw his side fall behind with just eight minutes gone.

Middlesbrough debutant Fabio progressed down the left and centred for David Nugent, who powered a header beyond Jesse Joronen.

Fulham, who will be at home to Bristol City in the third round, responded well after the break and deservedly levelled.

Ryan Tunnicliffe burst from deep and fed Malone, sprinting on the overlap down the left. The full-back’s shot was deflected and pawed into the air by keeper Brad Guzan before Julien de Sart turned the ball into his own net.

Ex-England striker Nugent came close to a winner with just two minutes of normal time left, seeing his header hit the bar.

Substitute Matt Smith rose highest to head narrowly over in extra time from Malone’s pinpoint cross, before another Fulham attack ended with Ben Gibson clearing Sean Kavanagh’s left-footed strike off the line.

But Christensen eventually popped up with a deserved winning goal on 113 minutes.
