Boss Symons never doubted McCormack

Fulham boss Kit Symons hailed Ross McCormack after the striker’s hat-trick in the 3-2 win against Nottingham Forest.

Summer signing McCormack overcame a frustrating start to his Whites career and has now taken his goal tally for the season to 10.

And Symons insisted he never had any doubts about the striker, who was in the spotlight following a big-money move from Leeds United.

Symons said: “It’s nice to see Ross scoring goals. Forwards like to be scoring goals.

“But his overall contribution has never been in question – he’s been excellent for us.

“He would have liked to have scored more goals but not once have I doubted his contribution to the team.”

Fulham were in a commanding position after McCormack’s treble but Henri Lansbury scored shortly before half-time and then again just after the hour mark as Forest came roaring back.

Symons’ side, now 14th in the Championship, then had to hold on for what turned out to be a hard-fought victory.

“In the first half our overall play was exceptional and Ross was obviously excellent – his first two goals were sublime finishes,” Symons said.

“The only disappointments in the first half were that we only scored three goals – we should have scored more with our domination – and that we gave them a lifeline with a stupid free-kick we gave away.

“In the second half Forest had to have a right go and they did, so full credit to them.

“But we were resolute, stood up and were counted. I’m very pleased to get the win.”
