Boss Jol reveals Diarra is close to return
Fulham manager Martin Jol says midfielder Mahamadou Diarra is closing on a return to action.
The 32-year-old has been training with the Whites despite his previous contract at Craven Cottage expiring at the end of last season.
Diarra twice underwent surgery on his left knee earlier in the year and Fulham opted not renew his deal while his fitness was still a concern.
But Jol has indicated that the former Real Madrid man is close to earning a new contract.
“He is now at 70-75% and training fully with us,” Jol explained.
“He needs games now and he will play his first game with the Under-21s on Monday.”
Diarra was recently reported to be on the verge of signing for Greek club Panathinaikos, which his agent strongly denied.
Jol added: “We are a good club and we look after our people.
“He had the chance to stay here and use our medical stuff and try to get a new contract.”
