Wigley hails Pearce and backs Magath after amazing Nottingham Forest win

Nottingham Forest assistant boss Steve Wigley admitted his side were fortunate to win an incredible game 5-3 against Fulham – and hopes Whites manager Felix Magath is given more time to turn things around.

The result leaves the Whites still bottom of the Championship with just one win in seven matches and takes Forest back to the top of the table.

Wigley, previously on the coaching staff at Fulham, said: “We were fortunate we started well and at 2-0, we should control the game.

“Then they played well until about 70 minutes, but once it became a shoot-out we knew we had the players who could score goals.

“They showed tremendous effort and will feel unlucky but we showed character. It’s a fantastic football club but they have forgotten how to win a game of football.

“Felix was very good to me when I worked there. He was a very supportive. I hope they are patient and give him a chance.”

Forest have been inspired since the Shepherd’s Bush-born Pearce returned as manager to the club where he made his name as a player.

“He made big decisions and changed the personnel,” Wigley said.

“He goes about it in a quiet way and put puts pride back in the football club. There is a reaction in the city – wherever you go.”
