Mancini: I was confident before the game

Galatasary boss Roberto Mancini said he was surprised at how poorly his team performed against Chelsea.

With the tie level at 1-1 after an even first leg in Turkey, Mancini’s team looked to have at least a fighting chance of reaching the Champions League quarter-finals.

But Chelsea comfortably secured a place in the last eight, with first-half goals from Samuel Eto’o and Gary Cahill giving them a 2-0 victory.

“We played really badly and and didn’t deserve anything,” Mancini admitted.

The former Manchester City manager added: “We didn’t get a chance and when you don’t get a chance you don’t score.

“After the game we played in Istanbul I was confident we could do a good game and have a chance to score, but instead we did nothing.”
