Hayes hopes Chelsea Ladies build on win

Chelsea Ladies manager Emma Hayes says they should take confidence from their impressive victory over Arsenal when they face in-form Manchester City at Staines Town’s Wheatsheaf Park on Sunday.

Chelsea have moved up to second place in the Women’s Super League after the 2-1 success against a Gunners side who had beaten the Blues twice in cup competitions this season.

Now Chelsea take on City, who have won seven games out of eight and are up to fourth in the table after Thursday’s 1-0 win over Notts County.

“We had a fantastic win against Arsenal on Wednesday night but our heads were immediately thinking about Manchester City as soon as the final whistle went,” Hayes said.

“They are a good, solid, organised team and have made a promising start to their debut season but we are playing at home and coming off the back of the Arsenal win and qualifying for the Continental Cup semi-final. I hope we have the confidence going in to the game to get another three points.

“We respect every opponent in this league, you only have to look at how tight games are to see you have to do that, but if we are going to continue to aim for a top-four finish then we need to pick up points at home.”

Kick-off on Sunday is at 2pm, with tickets available on the door. Tickets are £5 for adults and £3 for concessions.
