Defiant Man City boss plays down significance of Chelsea’s lead

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini played down the significance of the eight-point gap between his side and leaders Chelsea following the 2-2 draw at QPR.

The out-of-sorts champions arrived at Loftus Road nine points behind Jose Mourinho’s team after the Blues had won at Liverpool earlier in the day.

City remain off the pace needed a late equaliser from Sergio Aguero to rescue them from a defeat, but Pellegrini insisted he was untroubled by Chelsea’s commanding lead.

He said: “I don’t think about it. I think about other things. We have to play 27 more games – the championship is very long.”

City have been poor in recent weeks and again struggled against a Rangers side that led twice.

“We knew QPR were a very physical team and it’s important to control that,” Pellegrini added.

“We maybe didn’t play our best game but we continued fighting until the end of the game.”
