Chelsea Ladies held to draw by Arsenal

Women’s Super League leaders Chelsea Ladies were denied victory for the first time this season as second-placed Arsenal earned a 0-0 draw at Staines.

Blues boss Emma Hayes said her side would fully utilise this squad with an FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City to play on Monday.

England duo Eni Aluko and Claire Rafferty were both left on the bench, as was midfielder Millie Bright.

The Blues still just about shaded a tight first half in which both sides struggled to create opportunities.

Laura Coombs went close with a shot that went off target for the hosts while Ji So-Yun [pictured above] also shot wide.

Chelsea keeper Hedvig Lindahl had to be sharp off her line on a couple of occasions in either half and also made some decent saves.

However, Chelsea had the best opportunities and that pattern continued after the break, with Ji firing over from close range, Katie Chapman shooting over and Bright having a strike blocked.

The goal would not arrive, meaning no seventh consecutive win in all competitions, but the point maintains the unbeaten start and keeps Chelsea two points clear of Arsenal.
