Chelsea Ladies beat Liverpool to stay top

Eni Aluko scored the winner as Chelsea Ladies continued their 100% start to the season with a 1-0 victory over champions Liverpool.

England star Aluko [pictured] struck 10 minutes after half-time in the game at Staines Town’s Wheatsheaf Park, sprinting on to Laura Coombs’ lofted pass and lifting the ball over goalkeeper Libby Stout.

Liverpool, who pipped Chelsea to last season’s Women’s Super League title on the final day of the campaign, were awarded a penalty when Fara Williams’ ball into the box struck Aluko’s hand.

But Williams missed the chance to equalise, dragging her spot-kick wide of the post.

Chelsea, top of the WSL table after three matches, are in action again next Sunday, when they are away to Birmingham
