‘We’ve signed the English Messi!’ – Man City fans react to Fulham youngster’s move
Manchester City fans on Twitter have been reacting to their club’s signing of signing of highly-rated youngster Patrick Roberts from Fulham.
Many welcomed the signing, with some comparing the talented teenager with former City favourite Georgi Kinkladze – and even Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi.
We’ve signed the English Messi 🙂 best player in the world in a couple of years. Welcome to Manchester, Patrick Roberts. #MCFC

Patrick Roberts is a great signing for #MCFC looking forward to watching him break into the First Team over the next few years

See the haters are onto Roberts. Wasn’t in Fulham’s 1st 11 so won’t expect to start for us. World’s best academy will do nicely for now

Delighted with Patrick Roberts signing. One for the future. The future is blue #mcfc

Some Fulham fans were baffled that a player coveted for so long by Premier League clubs had not seen more first-team football at Craven Cottage, while others wondered how the money from the deal might be spent.
Kit Symons has stated that he did everything to keep Patrick Roberts at Fulham. Not quite, could have actually played him once in a while!

£11m for Roberts it’s a great deal for #ffc The odds of us spending it on a back four are the same as Roberts playing in the #mcfc 1st team

I want to wish Pat Roberts the best of luck at Man City. But, for me if Fulham spend the money wisely both sides win. Maybe a LB and a CB?

Meanwhile, supporters of City’s Premier League rivals were, perhaps predictably, more cynical about the signing. Fans of Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham questioned the club’s motives, the chances of Roberts getting first-team football and the cost of the deal.
Loads of city fans doing research on patrick Roberts today cos they’ve never heard of him, desperate 😂😂 liccle club #MCFC #desperate

Fabian Delph & Patrick Roberts have more than likely ruined their careers. 😌 #MCFC #AVFC #FFC

Patrick Roberts could cost #MCFC up to £11m. £11m?! Not doubting his ability but he’s 18 and never played in the Premier League… Nuts.
