Newcastle linked with QPR’s Austin and Fulham’s McCormack

Newcastle are being linked with summer moves for QPR’s Charlie Austin and Fulham’s Ross McCormack.

The Daily Mail claims the Magpies will appoint Derby boss Steve McClaren as their new manager and the club are already working on his list of targets.

It is suggested these include Austin and McCormack, as well as Burnley’s Danny Ings, Aleksandar Mitrovic of Anderlecht, Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette and Moussa Konate of FC Sion.

The Mail also revive speculation about interest from Chelsea in Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira, who apparently will not be offered a new contract.

However, The Sun claims Manchester United are confident of signing Khedira, who was an unused substitute in the Champions League quarter-final first leg with Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night.

The Daily Telegraph believes Chelsea have been given a boost in their apparent interest in Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi

The Blues have long been linked with the Argentine, who has scored 21 goals in all competitions this season.

The Telegraph, picking up on reports in Italy, claims Inter have already started to look for replacements should he leave for Stamford Bridge.

Other reports suggest Chelsea will not be signing Raheem Sterling or Memphis Depay.

The Daily Star quotes the Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre as saying he expects West London-raised Sterling to stay at Anfield for “years to come”.

And the Daily Express claims Chelsea, along with Arsenal and Tottenham, have ruled themselves out of a bid for PSV Eindhoven star Depay, leaving the path clear for Manchester United or Liverpool to sign the Dutch winger.
