Tottenham v Chelsea player ratings

Chelsea’s recovery continued at White Hart Lane with a third consecutive clean sheet. Here’s how we rated the Blues players in the 0-0 draw against Tottenham.

Asmir Begovic: 8
A fine display from the keeper, who produced a number of important saves – not least when he kept out Son Heung-min’s header and a shot from Moussa Dembele.

Branislav Ivanovic: 7
The stand-in captain’s best performance for some time. He focused less on getting forward and more on his defensive work, which was much improved. Dealt with the forward runs of Danny Rose very well.

Kurt Zouma: 8
Great stuff from Zouma, who was rock solid at the back. Quick, strong in the tackle and in the air.

Gary Cahill: 7
Marshalled the defence well in John Terry’s absence. Solid throughout.

Cesar Azpilicueta: 7
Kyle Walker’s forward runs caused the Spaniard some problems early on but he remained calm under pressure and looked to get forward himself when possible.

Nemanja Matic: 8
This was more like Matic at his best. He was a crucial player for the visitors, controlling things in midfield and superbly protecting the back four. Instrumental in Chelsea’s disciplined display.

Cesc Fabregas: 7
Another of last season’s star performers who has looked more like his old self recently. Worked hard off the ball and his accurate passing helped Chelsea threaten on the counter-attack.

Willian: 7
Contributed in attack and defence, offering a good outlet for the Blues on the right-hand side while, as always, showing a willingness to track back.

Oscar: 7
Operated mainly in Eric Dier’s territory and didn’t find it easy to shake off the Spurs man. Worked hard though, supported Eden Hazard well and always looked to create.

Pedro: 7
Excellent in the first half, when his skill and clever movement helped Chelsea cause Tottenham problems despite the absence of a recognised striker. Was less influential after the break as his team sat deeper.

Eden Hazard: 8
Deployed in a central attacking role after Diego Costa was dropped, Hazard responded with a fine performance full of movement, trickery and, above all, enthusiasm. Spurs couldn’t contain him in the first half and in the second he had a volley well saved.
