The break helped us and the last two results could be a turning point

Since my last column the team have enjoyed a couple of great wins, I was recalled to the England squad – and of course the men’s team made a quick exit from the World Cup.

I was really happy to get back in the England squad after another long-term injury. I’ve put in a lot of hard work in order to get myself back to full fitness and playing how I know I can.

The biggest challenge for me is to stay fit for Chelsea and hopefully the rest will fall into place.

At Chelsea, our two recent wins against Arsenal and Manchester City were massive and you could say a big turning point.

It was about us making a stand and asserting ourselves in the league. Each game from now on could win or lose us the title so we are taking one game at a time. Bristol this Sunday is as equally an important match as the Arsenal and Man City games.

I think we are starting to figure out what it takes to win games in this league. We all believe that we have the quality to do so but being able to manipulate and control a game has taken us this long to figure out.

Working as  a team and sticking to the gameplan that is set by our management is key. We have great team spirit and belief which I also think goes a long way when the margin for error is so small.

I also think the recent break definitely allowed us to regroup and reaffirm our plans for this season.

We had just over a week off out of the four, which was really nice. A few of the girls went away. I managed to get a few days in Spain. We had to keep on top of our training though to make sure we were all still fit for when we returned, but it allowed us time to switch off for a bit, which is always nice.

As for the men’s England team, obviously I was disappointed to see them crash out.

I had expected and hoped they would go further but unfortunately it wasn’t our time. Hopefully the ladies can do it next year in Canada.

Nonetheless it was a great World Cup to watch. I had my money on Germany to win from the start and was very surprised by how far Brazil got.

Overall I enjoyed it a lot – and loved having that much football on TV every day!
