Speculation over Defoe’s QPR wages ahead of striker’s anticipated move

There continues to be speculation about Jermain Defoe’s contract ahead of his anticipated move to QPR.

Rangers plan to sign the striker in January, having been unable to negotiate his release before the end of the previous transfer window because FC Toronto wanted him to be available for the Major League Soccer play-offs.

Yesterday the Evening Standard claimed that Defoe, who played under Rangers boss Harry Redknapp at Tottenham and Portsmouth, would be given a three-year contract and £90,000 a week.

And the Daily Mirror today reports that he will sign a three-year deal worth £80,000 a week.

The Mirror also reckon that Redknapp needed to persuade chairman Tony Fernandes to bring Defoe, 32, to Loftus Road.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are set to sign winger Zakaria Bakkali from PSV Eindhoven, the Daily Express say.

It is claimed that the Blues have seen off competition from Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Barcelona.

Chelsea are said to be planning to sign the 18-year-old in January and then allow him to return to the Netherlands on loan.
