QPR v Newcastle player ratings

Leroy Fer’s 25-yard strike gave relegated QPR their first home victory under Chris Ramsey. Here’s how we rated each player in the 2-1 win against Newcastle.

Rob Green: 6
Let down by his defence for the Newcastle goal. Then had to be taken off after taking a knee to the face in an accidental collision with Joey Barton.

Nedum Onuoha: 6
Worked hard but never looked comfortable on the ball. His touch and distribution let him down several times.

Steven Caulker: 5
Guilty of letting Emmanuel Rivere drift into space for Newcastle’s goal and never looked convincing before being taken off at half-time.

Richard Dunne: 6
Will always find it difficult against quick forwards, but he stuck to his task well and didn’t put a foot wrong.

Clint Hill: 6
Recovered from a couple of mix-ups early on to have an assured game. A couple of blocks in the second half prevented Newcastle from drawing level.

Matty Phillips: 7
Found it tough to get involved in the first half, but made up for it in the second. His header brought QPR level, before his tenacity helped in the build up to Leroy Fer’s stunning winner.

Joey Barton: 7
Covered a lot of ground and battled well – typical of his recent displays.

Karl Henry: 6
A determined performance from the midfielder, who has been a dependable cog in the Rangers side this season.

Junior Hoilett: 5
A willing runner, but he just doesn’t seem to be able to deliver. Was also taken off at half-time.

Leroy Fer: 7
Rarely involved in the first half, but was moved from a central position to the left in the second. The decision paid off as the Dutchman smashed a right-foot shot into the top corner from 25 yards after an hour and was strong on the ball thereafter.

Charlie Austin: 7
Forced a save from Tim Krul early in the second half and set up Phillips’ goal with an excellent cross.

Alex McCarthy: 6
Introduced on 34 minutes after Green’s head injury and performed well on the whole. His poor kicking is a worry, though.

Yun Suk-Young: 6
Came on at half-time and responded well to his error at Manchester City last week with a decent display.

Reece Grego-Cox: 6
Was unable to make any real impact but the youngster was lively and the experience have done him good.
