QPR v Middlesbrough player ratings

Jamie Mackie and Tjaronn Chery scored fine goals against Middlesbrough but their team were punished for their defensive lapses. Here’s how we rated QPR’s players in the 3-2 defeat at Loftus Road.

Alex Smithies: 7
Saved another penalty and made a handful of other excellent stops. Unfortunate to concede three goals and end up on the losing side in a game he excelled in.

Nedum Onuoha: 5
A below-par display from the Rangers captain, who was too easily beaten by Ben Gibson as the Boro defender headed home their third goal.

Gabriele Angella: 5
A bad night too for Angella, who never looked comfortable. He let Gaston Ramirez get in front of him to score Boro’s second goal and he was at fault again when Albert Adomah robbed him of the ball – Smithies was on hand to save his blushes though.

Grant Hall: 5
Another to suffer in Rangers’ torrid defensive display. Hall was at fault for the first goal and generally looked well short of his impressive best.

James Perch: 6
Struggled against the pace and skill of Adomah, but his commitment couldn’t be questioned.

Karl Henry: 7
Competed well against the outstanding Adam Clayton and Grant Leadbitter. Made one excellent challenge near the edge of the penalty area after his initial mistake.

Alejandro Faurlin: 6
Unable to control proceedings and his set-pieces were unusually poor too.

Matt Phillips: 6
Deployed on the left, where he failed to deliver in another muted performance.

Jamie Mackie: 8
He battled, hassled and tackled – this was the Mackie that Rangers fans know and love. He combined this with a stunning goal; an instinctive volley on the turn from the edge of the box after he charged down an attempted clearance. Unfortunately, though, he was taken off after suffering a knock to his left ankle midway through the second half.

Tjaronn Chery: 7
Lively and productive, Chery got his reward when his late long-range effort gave Rangers a sniff of a point.

Sebastian Polter: 7
Another workmanlike performance from the striker, who kept Boro’s centre-halves busy. Should have won his side a penalty when he was thrown to the floor in the box during the first half, but no foul was given.

Junior Hoilett: 6
Created what should have been a goal for Polter when the ball was incorrectly adjudged to have gone out of play before Hoilett hooked the ball back from the right and the German tapped into an empty net.

Nasser El Khayati: 6
Showed some nice touches after coming on. Has obvious ability.
