QPR v Carlisle player ratings

QPR made another embarrassing exit from the League Cup, this time losing at home to Carlisle. Here’s how we rated the players in Tuesday’s game.

Alex Smithies: 5
Not the debut the keeper would have wanted. He produced a couple of decent saves but hesitated in the build-up to the first goal and was later rescued by a goal-line clearance after failing to claim a high ball.

Darnell Furlong: 6
A difficult night for the young full-back, but he has some good attributes, including pace and tenacity. He can cross a ball too – one delivery in the first half was superb.

Grant Hall: 6
Competent enough but still very much has the look of a squad player.

Clint Hill: 7
Was caused some problems by a pacy attack but overall produced a decent performance. Saved the day with a number of interceptions and a clearance off the line before Carlisle eventually scored their winner.

Cole Kpekawa: 6
Enthusiastic going forward and is quick with a good left foot. Found the going tough defensively though, especially in the second half.

Michael Doughty: 5
Has done a solid job when brought on as a substitute to tighten things up in midfield, but this was a tougher challenge for the midfielder, who needed to offer better protection in front of the back four.

Oscar Gobern: 5
Impressed with his attitude while on trial during pre-season but is unlikely to pull up trees in the Championship based on this display.

Junior Hoilett: 5
Involved in some of Rangers’ best moments but, as is so often the case, he simply didn’t do enough. Ought to have made much more of an impact against such lowly opposition.

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas: 6
Scored Rangers’ equaliser – a quality strike from distance – having been their most threatening player in the opening stages. But he drifted in and out of the game.

Reece Grego-Cox: 5
Lively early on, when he had a powerful shot saved. Lacks subtlety though and would probably benefit from a spell out on loan.

Sebastian Polter: 5
Had some good moments, setting up a couple of chances with his lay-offs. Missed a sitter though and at times his first touch was truly diabolical.

Brandon Comley: 6
Liked by Chris Ramsey and showed some nice touches after coming on as a substitute midway through the second half.
