Ipswich v Fulham player ratings

Fulham made a losing start to life in the Championship, going down 2-1 against Ipswich. Here’s how we rated the players in their defeat at Portman Road.

Jesse Joronen: 6
Understandably looked jittery. The young keeper was left exposed for both Ipswich goals. Before those he produced a couple of early saves, including a fine tip over from Christophe Berra’s header.

Tim Hoogland: 7
Luck went the new signing’s way when his shot deflected in, but he probably deserved some good fortune after some tireless running on the right-hand side. Will need to improve defensively but offers a very useful attacking outlet.

Shaun Hutchinson: 5
A debut to forget for the centre-back, who was at fault for both Ipswich goals before being taken off. He was caught out for the opener by Daryl Murphy, who got the better of him in the build-up to the second.

Nikolay Bodurov: 5
A difficult debut for the Bulgarian, who will need to adapt quickly to the pace and intensity of Championship football. Dragged out of position too often.

Konstantinos Stafylidis: 8
Looked defensively more solid than Hoogland and has plenty of ability going forward. He was unlucky with a long-range effort in the second half. An impressive and encouraging display.

Cameron Burgess: 6
Given the job of protecting the back four and showed some potential, but found the going tough once Ipswich began to get on top.

Scott Parker: 6
Very effective in some ways and totally ineffective in others. Had a good spell in the second half and was neat and tidy with the ball. Fulham’s lack of ‘legs’ in midfield has to be a concern, however, and the ease with which Ipswich played their way through the centre of the field at times was ominous.

Emerson Hyndman: 6
Worked hard but also had problems in midfield, especially during a tough spell in the first half.

Chris David: 7
Showed a lack of composure, twice missing the target when found in space, but got into some good positions and looked lively before going off at half-time.

Moussa Dembele: 5
Has plenty of ability, skill and a physical presence, but the youngster had a poor game – summed up by a bad miss in the first half.

Ross McCormack: 5
Struggled to make an impact on his debut following his big-money move and was taken off before the hour mark. Looked short of fitness.

Thomas Eisfeld: 7
Came on for the second half and showed some good movement. Was involved in creating a late chance for Patrick Roberts.

Cauley Woodrow: 7
Also showed good movement and gave Fulham an added threat when he came on for McCormack. Could be an important player for the Whites this season.

Patrick Roberts: 7
A lovely cameo from the 17-year-old. Oozes class and was unlucky with a deflected effort as Fulham pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages.

Fulham man of the match: Stafylidis
