Latest speculation over QPR trio as bid for Phillips is rejected

There continues to be speculation over the futures of QPR duo Charlie Austin and Matty Phillips, while Sunderland have been linked with Junior Hoilett.

Rangers have turned down a £7m bid from West Brom for Phillips and earlier this week rejected a £12m offer from Leicester for Austin.

The Mirror say Albion have agreed a fee for Phillips, prompting Metro to declare that the winger’s move to The Hawthorns is a done deal.

Sky Sports believe Albion had a £5m bid rejected, as does Midlands newspaper the Express & Star, which also believes a compromise can be reached over a fee.

Rangers want £10m for Phillips and further talks between the two clubs are expected to take place over the coming days.

As for Austin, Newcastle are yet again tipped to make a move to sign him despite so far not making any approach.

QPR want £15m for the striker and Leicester’s recent bid was the first offer or approach made for Austin despite numerous reports of various clubs attempting to sign him.

Newcastle are now ready to make an offer around the £15m mark, the Sunday Express claim.

The Daily Star Sunday also say Newcastle are prepared to meet QPR’s asking price in order to beat Leicester to his signing.

But the Mail claim Newcastle have concerns over Austin’s long-term fitness because of a previous shoulder injury and are unwilling to pay more than £12m.

The Sunday People pick up on recent speculation that Austin would prefer to stay in London, suggesting he is waiting to see if Chelsea come in for him and, if they do not, that he would favour a move to West Ham.

And The Sun on Sunday reports that Bournemouth will offer QPR £14m for the 25-year-old.

Meanwhile, the Sunday Mirror say Sunderland, recently linked with Phillips, are ready to make a £2.5m bid for Hoilett and that German club Borussia Monchengladbach are also interested in the R’s winger.
