More speculation over Defoe’s future as QPR seek deal for ex-Spurs striker

There is more speculation over the future of Jermain Defoe as QPR look to tie up a deal to sign the former Tottenham striker.

The Telegraph believe Rangers will miss out on Defoe, 32, because of the transfer fee apparently being demanded by FC Toronto.

Rangers were unable to agree his release from the Canadian club in the final hours of the previous transfer window as Toronto were reluctant to let him leave before the Major League Soccer play-offs.

They are hoping to sign Defoe during the current window but it is claimed that they are now looking at alternatives.

The Telegraph also report QPR’s interest in West Ham’s Mauro Zarate and Galway youngster Ryan Manning.

Reports in France, picked up by the Daily Star, have linked Chelsea with a move for St Etienne youngster Rayan Souici.

The 16-year-old holding midfielder, a France youth international, is also interesting Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City, the Star say.

Croatian striker Andrej Kramatic, heavily tipped to join Chelsea only for no move to materialise, will reject a transfer to Stamford Bridge and sign a five-year deal with Leicester City, the Daily Express claims.

The Daily Mail suggests the prolific Rijeka forward is due to fly into London to agree terms on an £8m deal with the Blues, before opening talks about a loan deal with Leicester on Tuesday.

However, the Express believes Kramaric’s arrival in England is to conclude a permanent move to the Foxes, who are said to have had a £9.5m offer accepted by Rijeka.

It comes after a Rijeka-based radio station reported that the 23-year-old forward will be paid £1.15m per year by Leicester, with a guarantee he will be sold if they are relegated.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has again stated that England midfielder Ross Barkley is not for sale in January – and the Express say this is as a blow for Chelsea, who are said to be keen to sign the 21-year-old.

And there is further speculation over Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane.

The Spanish media have tipped Varane to move to the Premier League, and the Express claims Chelsea and Manchester United may be able to sign the Frenchman for £20m.

Meanwhile, Brentford are among a clutch of teams in for Arnold Peralta, according to reports in the Glasgow Rangers midfielder’s native Honduras.

The 25-year-old is also said to be attracting interest from Spain and the United States.
