Chelsea linked with Austin, plus speculation over Mikel and Phillips

A round-up of today’s transfer speculation involving Chelsea and QPR….

Chelsea are interested in signing Charlie Austin, it is claimed.

Metro and the Express have reported that the Blues are looking to sign the 17-goal striker, who has been tipped to leave Rangers if they get relegated this season.

Austin’s representatives have been negotiating an improved contract for Austin should he end up staying at Loftus Road this summer.

There has also been speculation over the future of Austin’s QPR team-mate Matt Phillips.

Southampton were recently linked with the in-form winger and the Daily Mirror say West Bromwich Albion are also keen to sign him.

Albion were also reported to be interested in Phillips during the January transfer window.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have been linked with a £20m move for Marseille midfielder Giannelli Imbula.

The Sun claims the 22-year-old is being targeted to play alongside Nemanja Matic.

It is suggested the Blues wanted to sign Imbula for £1m in the summer of 2013, when he was at Guingamp, but the player ended up moving to Marseille instead.

The Daily Star believes any move for Imbula would end Chelsea’s supposed interest in Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, leaving the way clear for Arsenal and Manchester United to sign the Frenchman.

Real Madrid are apparently set to make a surprise move for Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel.

The Star, picking up on reports in Italy, claims Mikel is likely to leave the club in the summer after nine years at Stamford Bridge.

The Nigeria international, 28, has previously been linked with Southampton.

Chelsea may have a rival for the signature of 19-year-old Brazilian Nathan.

The Atletico Paranaense teenager has been lined up for a potential move to the Bridge but the transfer has not been completed yet, and reports in Portugal, picked up by the Express, suggest Porto have put in a bid.

Shakhtar Donetsk attacker Douglas Costa, who previously said he wanted to sign for Chelsea, has now apparently talked up a possible move to Paris St- Germain.

The Express quotes the Brazilian as telling French television: “I like PSG a lot. They have become an enormous club and it would be a pleasure to wear that shirt.”
