Much speculation over Rangers manager Redknapp’s future

There is much speculation about Harry Redknapp’s future based on QPR’s dismal displays and recent reports he was set to sign a new deal.

Last month it was revealed that former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood had been discussed as a possible new manager amid doubts about Redknapp within Loftus Road that also existed last season.

In response, Rangers indicated they were ready to offer him a contract – his current one expires at the end of the campaign.

Redknapp subsequently claimed there was a two-year contract waiting for him to sign whenever he chose to put pen to paper and that he planned to do so.

The Daily Mirror and the Daily Telegraph today both say contract talks have been shelved but that his position is not under immediate threat.

The Mirror also report QPR legend Les Ferdinand’s imminent return in a new role at the club – an appointment the Telegraph believe complicated the supposed contract talks with Redknapp.

Redknapp, meanwhile, has claimed that he has chosen not to sign a contract and will walk away if Rangers are relegated again.

He told The Sun: “We’ll see where QPR finish the season and take it from there. If we get relegated I wouldn’t expect to stay and I wouldn’t want to.

“I told Tony [Fernandes] that I get on so well with him and know him so well I don’t want a contract. I don’t need one. If I’d wanted to sign the contract I could have done a long time ago.

“So we’ll see where we are come next May won’t we? I may have had enough by then and so might the people that run the club.”
