Rangers linked with loan move for ex-Fulham star Dempsey

QPR will be keen to sign Clint Dempsey on loan in January, the Daily Mirror say.

Aston Villa and Stoke are also tipped to show an interest in the 31-year-old former Fulham star.

Dempsey is expected to be made available for a loan move by Seattle Sounders, having returned to Fulham on loan from the Major Soccer League outfit last season.

Tony Fernandes’ comments on Twitter on Sunday morning are picked up by a number of newspapers, including The Guardian and the Daily Express.

Fernandes claimed he would quit as QPR chairman if fans wanted him to and insisted manager Harry Redknapp should be judged when key players return from injury.

Meanwhile, Rio Ferdinand has insisted he has not decided whether he will hang up his boots at the end of the season and has denied reports he could even retire in January.

QPR’s former England defender said in a recent television interview that this season would “probably” be his last.

But he told The Sun: “People have put two and two together and made six. I certainly never said I might finish in January.

“My comment about probably ending at the end of the season was a bit of an off-the-cuff remark which got taken as fact.

“The truth is, I haven’t decided yet. There is a one-year option to continue.

“I know it’s going to end at some point and I am in the final stages of my career but I honestly don’t know what is going to happen.”
