Chelsea lose out in battle for Saints star Shaw, report claims

Chelsea have lost out to Manchester United in the battle to sign Southampton star Luke Shaw, the Sunday People say.

It is claimed the left-back is set to move to Old Trafford this summer in a £27m transfer and will be paid £85,000 a week.

The People also say Chelsea want to sign Ross Barkley from Everton in an exchange deal involving Romelu Lukaku, who is currently on loan at Goodison Park.

Barkley is touted as a possible long-term replacement for Frank Lampard, with the England midfielder tipped to join LA Galaxy this summer when his contract at Stamford Bridge expires.

The Sunday Telegraph say Everton are considering Loic Remy, currently on loan at Newcastle from QPR, as a possible signing if they are unable to land Lukaku.

Chelsea are reported to have told Everton that Belgian striker Lukaku would cost £20m.

Ashley Cole, who is also coming to the end of his Chelsea contract, has been offered an £8m two-year deal to join Real Madrid, according to the Sun on Sunday.

A source is quoted at saying: “Ashley is a world-class defender and Madrid have wanted to sign him for some time. It is now the perfect opportunity as he is free.”

The Sunday Mirror, meanwhile, say Cole is wanted by Galatasaray.
