More Messi speculation as Blues and Man Utd are linked with Barca star

Chelsea are set to compete with Manchester United in a battle to sign Lionel Messi from Barcelona, the Express claim.

Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola has ruled out a move for the Argentine superstar and the Express say this means only the Blues, United and Paris St-Germain are in the running. Messi has always made it clear he plans to stay at Barca.

The Express have also linked Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi with a possible move to Stamford Bridge after Inter coach Jesus Hernandez suggested the Argentine striker could leave for England.

“If Icardi played in Spain or England, where he is likely to go, he would be a star. He has the talent to be the new Ronaldo,” Hernandez recently told Gazzetta dello Sport.

Having linked Marco Reus with a move to Chelsea, the Daily Star say Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal are now in the running to sign him after the Blues pulled out of the race.

It comes after Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho insisted the club have never been interested in signing the Borussia Dortmund player.

And there continues to be speculation that Chelsea could make a move for Everton full-back Seamus Coleman when the transfer window opens in January.

It is claimed that Everton are looking at potential replacements for the Republic of Ireland star.

Meanwhile, Roma are set to compete with QPR for the signing of Porto defender Rolando, according to Italian media reports.

The 29-year-old Portugal international, who has been on loan at Inter Milan and Napoli, is one of several centre-backs Rangers have discussed as a possible signing in recent months.
