Everton could battle with Spurs to sign Remy, report claims

Everton are considering a £10.5m move for Loic Remy, the Sunday Telegraph say.

It is claimed that the France striker, currently on a season-long loan at Newcastle from QPR, has been identified as a possible alternative to Romelu Lukaku, partly because Remy has a buy-out clause in his contract.

Belgian striker Lukaku is on loan at Everton from Chelsea, who are reported to have told the Merseyside club they would need to pay £20m to sign him on a permanent basis.

Qualifying for the Champions League would apparently boost Everton’s chances of getting Lukaku, but manager Roberto Martinez is said to be assessing other targets.

The Telegraph say Tottenham are also interested in Remy and that Newcastle have not given up hope of a deal to sign him.

Arsenal have also recently been linked with the 27-year-old, who joined QPR from Marseille last year.
