Fernandes savours QPR turnaround after avoiding ‘rash decisions’

Tony Fernandes took to Twitter after QPR’s 2-2 draw against Manchester City, declaring that he was proud of the players.

The Rangers chairman, who faced calls to sack manager Harry Redknapp following a dismal start to the season, also pointed out that the board did not make “rash decisions” when results were poor.

Fernandes tweeted: “Proud of our boys.gave the champions a run for the money should have beaten Liverpool and gave Chelsea a scare. I’m a super proud chairman.

“Thought the ref had a poor first half . all credit to the boys. we showed what we can do today

“Looking over the last few weeks when backs were against us. we kept calm didn’t make rash decisions . should have got a point Liverpool and chelsea.”

Vice-chairman Amit Bhatia tweeted: “Fantastic football match. Unlucky not to get three points. Feels like we’ve turned a corner. So proud of our team. @QPRFC #qpr #uurrrrssss.”

And chief executive Philip Beard added: “I am so proud to part this club. Performances on and off the pitch outstanding and the support today was of the scale #weRtogether.”

Charlie Austin scored QPR’s first goal – his sixth of the season – and set up their second before Sergio Aguero’s late equaliser for City.

Austin tweeted: “Big point tonight! So many positives for the team right now. Fans were different class!

“Love scoring but would always swap my goal for a win! Team most important. On to the next one!”

Goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, who was one of Rangers’ substitutes, wrote: “Another great performance from the boys today, big point in the end! Great atmosphere.”

And R’s midfielder Joey Barton, who returned to action after injury, tweeted: “Great performance again from the lads. Great to be back. Could have been 3 points but for Sergio Aguero. The best striker in the country.”
