Fernandes: QPR will stop being a buying club
QPR chairman Tony Fernandes has insisted that the club is moving towards a culture of developing rather than buying players.
Speaking to QPR Player, Fernandes claimed that steps had already been taken to improve the club’s academy and place less emphasis on spending in the transfer market.
“We have a better recruitment strategy – it’s by no means perfect but it’s better,” he said.
“The academy is going to be the culture. If that’s the last thing I do it is going to be that players come through our academy.
“We’re not going to be a buying club. We’re going to be a developing club. We’re going to develop players through the system.
“It’s been tough because we’ve always been on the back foot. From the moment I came in, Neil Warnock wanted to buy players, then left us and Mark Hughes did a wholesale change.
“Then to be fair to Harry Redknapp a lot of those players had to be replaced and the only way was to buy new players.”

As a small club academy ayers are important and that’s where the money should be spent, but the money needs to be spent on experience players to keep us in the prem. how are you going to attract the best young talent if your not in the prem. I feel the policy the board have in place now is a plan to fail in respect of staying in the prem.i am a season ticket holder who intends not to renew my ticket next season whether we are in the prem after being a supporter through thick and thin for 40 years I am now exhausted with excuses and poor leadership… If there is one message to the board it would be ‘wake up and remember things are a lot harder when you are not in the prem, you should of signed at least experience spine of the team and filled the wholes in from what we had in the championship.if you stay in the prem in a couple of seasons things would of paid for themselves. Please give me a job I will show you how.!!!

As we used to be but with a few key signings to add vital experience. However the managers in those days fitted the job description. developmental and inspired taking our youngsters all the through to International football…….long term. Harry does not now fit that bill . I suppose he did many years ago. Terry Venables and Gerry Francis DID. Try to find a new one of them for Q P R ? Difficult. It needs the best. None of the interceding managers would have been up to it. You gotta go some Tony. Truly best wishes. Get my Rangers and a certain drum back please.
