Striker Costa finalises move to Chelsea

Chelsea have formally completed the signing of striker Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid.

The Brazil-born Spain international, who cost the Blues around £32m, has signed a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge.

A deal was agreed several weeks ago and Chelsea initially hoped to finalise the signing before the World Cup.

Costa, 25, scored 36 goals in 52 games for Atletico last season, helping them win the La Liga title and reach the final of the Champions League.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has long made it clear he is determined to sign at least one top-level striker before the start of next season.

Blues forwards Samuel Eto’o, Fernando Torres and Demba Ba managed a total of 19 goals between them last term.

Nine of them were scored by Eto’o, who has been released after his contract expired.

Costa becomes Chelsea’s third summer signing following the arrivals of Cesc Fabregas and Mario Pasalic.
