Second Chelsea youngster returns to club for injury assessment

Jordan Houghton has returned to Chelsea after suffering a knee injury playing for loan club Doncaster at the weekend.

The 21-year-old midfielder was forced off during the second half of Rovers’ 1-1 home draw with Luton on Saturday.

Houghton, who has made 36 appearances for Rovers this season, will now be assessed by the Blues’ medical staff.

“He has been so important in terms of how we want to play,” Doncaster boss Darren Ferguson told his club’s official website.

“He has been outstanding, has improved as the season has gone on, wants to learn and is a great lad on top of that.

“We’re all disappointed for him as he has done so well for us. We spoke to him as a group on Tuesday and everyone wished him all the best.”

Another Chelsea youngster, Tammy Abraham, has returned to Stamford Bridge temporarily after limping out of Bristol City’s defeat at Leeds last Tuesday with a thigh injury.
