Mourinho warns PSG of ‘different’ Chelsea

Jose Mourinho believes Paris St Germain will face a “different” Chelsea to the one that beat the French side in last season’s Champions League quarter-finals – but he stopped short of saying the new version are a better side.

The Blues triumphed on away goals last season thanks to Demba Ba’s late goal in the second leg at Stamford Bridge.

But the Portuguese hinted at a more expansive and confident Chelsea in this season’s encounter in the last 16.

“Chelsea is a different team,” Mourinho said, alluding to the greater threat posed by a team with Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costsa to share the attacking burden alongside Eden Hazard, Willian and Oscar.

“We have some different players, we change a little bit the profile of our game, the identity of our game.

“I don’t want to say we are better or not better. I’m saying that we change the profile of our game, so I believe Parc des Princes will see a different Chelsea than last season.”

Chelsea lost last season’s first leg 3-1, but Hazard’s penalty ultimately proved crucial as Andre Schurrle and Ba earned a 2-0 win in the return leg.

“We lost in Paris and again the knockout competition was decided in the last minute,” Mourinho said.

“I’m not saying we won because we were better than Paris. We won because we scored a goal away and we didn’t concede at home.

“Paris is a great team and is basically the same team as last season, with David Luiz. Same team, same coach, same dynamic, same profile.

“They have conditions to be better. When you have stability you can always improve.”
