Mourinho insists title race is not over

Jose Mourinho insisted Chelsea still have work to do in order to clinch the title after their 1-0 victory against Manchester United.

Eden Hazard’s first-half goal took the Blues 10 points clear at the top of the Premier League.

It means if they win at second-placed Arsenal next weekend they can wrap up the title with a victory at Leicester a week on Wednesday.

But Blues boss Mourinho, seemingly unaware that six points could be enough for his side, said: “We need eight points to be champions.

“Football is not about ifs and not about moments, it’s about mathematics.”

He added: “When the mathematics are done, we celebrate. Until that moment, no.

“The celebrations [at the end of the game] are because we beat one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“If the celebration is because the players gave everything to win that game, then I understand. If they are celebrating more than that, not at all.

“It’s three more points. Before the game we needed 11 and in this moment we need eight.

“Every point we get now, every victory, is one step in the title direction but no more than that.”

United looked the more dangerous side for much of the game, especially in the first half, but Hazard’s 18th goal of the season was enough to give the hosts a vital win.

“The players were magnificent and Eden has that magic that the top ones have, especially in big matches,” Mourinho said.
