Mourinho insists he wants Cech to stay

Jose Mourinho says he wants Petr Cech to stay at Chelsea and fight to get his place back.

The Blues’ long-serving keeper was left out for the Premier League opener at Burnley, with Thibaut Courtois getting the nod for the 3-1 win at Turf Moor.

Cech’s omission is bound to increase speculation that the 32-year-old could leave Stamford Bridge in search of first-team football.

But manager Mourinho insisted: “I want to keep Petr and the club wants to keep him.

“I’m expecting him to go to the training ground, be a top professional and fight to be back in goal.”

Chelsea came back from a goal down against the Clarets, with goals from summer signing Diego Costa, Andre Schurrle and Branislav Ivanovic securing what turned out to be a resounding victory.

Costa impressed on his competitive debut for the club, as did fellow new arrival Cesc Fabregas, who was involved in all three goals.

“I always thought Diego and Cesc would bring us to the dimension we want because they are different players to what we had in the past,” Mourinho said.

“We need that striker who can hold the ball and have interaction with other players, and we need that kind of midfielder that dictates the intensity in the centre.”
