Mourinho hoping for confidence boost from Chelsea win

Jose Mourinho said he was hopeful Chelsea’s 4-0 win against Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Champions League proves to be another sign that his team have turned the corner.

Mourinho’s side had lost seven of their 12 Premier League matches prior to Saturday’s 1-0 win against Norwich.

They looked vulnerable at the back at times in Israel but kept another clean sheet and need just a point in their final group match, against Mourinho’s former club Porto at Stamford Bridge on 9 December, to guarantee a place in the knockout stage.

“In this moment we are in a good position,” Mourinho said.

“It was very important, especially with what happened in Porto. It is also important to have two victories in a few days.

“I hope tranquility comes, morale comes and that confidence comes.”

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill, who scored the opening goal, told BT Sport, “It takes it into the last game but we also need to build confidence and momentum, and it gets us going in the right direction.”
