Mourinho: ‘Honest’ Cahill would not dive

Jose Mourinho defended Gary Cahill after Chelsea’s 2-0 win against Hull, insisting he did not believe the Blues defender was guilty of diving.

Hull manager Steve Bruce was adamant that Cahill, booked for a challenge on Sone Eluko, should have been sent off for a second bookable offence after going down in the box.

Cahill’s team-mate Diego Costa was yellow-carded for diving during the game and Willian also took a tumble.

But Chelsea boss Mourinho said: “I don’t believe Cahill dived. That big, honest guy – I don’t believe he dived.

“If Willian wants to dive he dives in the box, not on the halfway line.”

Chelsea were not at their fluent best but goals from Eden Hazard and Costa were enough to see off Hull, who had Tom Huddlestone sent off in the second half for scything down Filipe Luis.

“We didn’t play especially well but we played well enough for everybody connected with Chelsea to be calm because the game was always under control,” Mourinho said.

“This season we have had many special performances. Today there were just moments of good football and moments of creativity – just moments, not for the 90 minutes.

“As managers we always want more, but the reality is that what is in front of the players is hard.

“We have been playing well since August. It’s been four months of playing well and getting results.”
