Mourinho expects Blues to win title

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho insists the Champions League exit will not affect their confidence and fully expects his side to win the Premier League title.

The 2-2 draw with Paris St-Germain ended their European hopes for another season, but the League Cup winners remain five points clear at the top of the league with a game in hand on second-placed Manchester City.

Mourinho said: “The people that is out of the Champions League last Wednesday is the same people that is top of the Premier League since day one, is the same people that won the Capital Cup, is the same people that is going to win the Premier League. We are exactly the same people.

“We have 11 matches to play. We have an advantage of five points with a match in hand. We cannot promise we will win every game but we are optimistic.”

Chelsea are at home against Southampton on Sunday, the first off 11 matches left this season.

“I think the players will cope with the pressure of playing against Southampton,” Mourinho said.

“We are having key games since the beginning of the season. We start the season with the same points as Man City, we now have five points more so more pressure in the beginning.

“We start the season with the same points as Arsenal, we now have nine points more than Arsenal so in this moment it is easier.

“We failed in one knockout game. The reality is that we have not lost since the Bradford game and have only lost two league games all season.

“I like my players and I trust my players when I win and when I lose. I support my players. We lose together and we win together.”
