Mourinho explains ‘in trouble’ comment

Jose Mourinho has insisted that Chelsea are in good shape despite their worrying away defeats.

The Blues boss admitted being concerned about their form on the road following losses at Everton and Newcastle.

And he appeared to be even more alarmed after Saturday’s 3-2 reverse at Stoke, when he suggested Chelsea were “in trouble” during a post-match television interview.

However, when asked on Tuesday about his remark, he said: “I don’t remember those words.

“No, if we’re in trouble there are 17 teams in more trouble than us.

“I feel the way we played in the first half against Stoke we have to be winning 4-0 at half-time. We didn’t score the goals we should and then conceded, so yes we were in trouble.

“If I thought we were in trouble, I meant trouble in that game. It is unbelievable that we lost that game like it was unbelievable that we lost at Everton.”

With the likes of Eden Hazard and Andre Schurrle impressing this season, Chelsea have a team full of attacking flair.

Defensive lapses have proved costly on occasions, but Mourinho says he has no plans to alter their style of play.

He said: “We are creating a lot and have to score goals and kill opponents. But am I going to change our style? No.

“Am I going to play David Luiz in front of the defence? No. We go in the same direction.”
