Lampard deserves good reception – Redknapp

Harry Redknapp says Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has earned the right to a brilliant reception when he makes his first return to Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Lampard, 36, is expected to be on the Manchester City bench for the top-of-the-table game following his controversial summer move to the reigning champions.

And QPR boss Redknapp expects his nephew, Chelsea’s all-time leading scorer, with 211 goals, will be warmly greeted by supporters of the club he served with such distinction for 13 years.

“Chelsea have had some fantastic players over the years and he’s one of the all-time greats,” said Redknapp, who gave Lampard his debut when the midfielder was a West Ham player.

“He played for Chelsea for God knows how many years, scored how many goals and they won every cup there is to win. He should get a good reception.”

Lampard was almost in tears when Blues fans sang his name after scoring the equaliser for his new club against Chelsea earlier this season.

But some supporters have been unhappy with how Lampard ended up at City when he announced he was moving to Major League Soccer in America.

Lampard won three Premier League titles, the Champions League, four FA Cups, two League Cups and the Europa League while a Chelsea player.
