Keeper Schwarzer signs new Blues deal

Veteran goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has signed a new one-year contract at Chelsea.

The Australian, 41, joined the Blues on a 12-month deal in 2013 after leaving Fulham.

Schwarzer, who spent five years at Craven Cottage, made his Chelsea debut in their Capital One Cup win at Swindon and kept his place for Premier League matches against Arsenal and Sunderland.

He also featured in the Champions League against Steaua Bucharest and he later came on for the injured Petr Cech against Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals.

The injury ended Cech’s season and meant more first-team outings for Schwarzer, who appeared 13 times during the course of the campaign.
