Cech could miss start of pre-season

Petr Cech is in danger of missing the start of Chelsea’s pre-season campaign after undergoing an operation.

The 31-year-old goalkeeper dislocated his shoulder in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Atletico Madrid and is expected to be sidelined for between eight to 10 weeks.

Cech will miss Chelsea’s final game of the season, against Cardiff on Sunday, and would not have been involved in the summer’s World Cup in Brazil anyway as the Czech Republic failed to qualify.

The new Premier League season gets under way on Saturday 16 August.
