Jose says he expects Chelsea trio to stay

Jose Mourinho says he believes John Terry, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole will play for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge again.

The long-serving trio are out of contract this summer and while Terry looks likely to sign a new deal, Lampard and Cole are no longer sure of a first-team place and have been tipped to move elsewhere.

All three took time to salute the fans away from the rest of the Blues squad when the players appeared on the pitch after Chelsea drew 0-0 with Norwich in their final home match of the season, which is bound to increase speculation about their futures.

Asked whether he expected them to be at the club next season, manager Mourinho said: “I think so. But they are [going to speak] with the club.

“Now is the time to wait a little bit. It is a long summer for us as a club and there is a long time to discuss and analyse options.”

Former England captain Terry, 33, has been with Chelsea his entire career and recently insisted that he expected to sign a new contract.

Lampard, 35, has been at the club for 13 years and is its all-time leading goalscorer, while England left-back Cole, 33, has made 338 Blues appearances during a trophy-laden eight years at the Bridge.
